Travelling green and sustainable
Sustainable travel has been a topic of great discussion. And for good reason. Especially as the world opens up and we can’t wait to be on a flight. But Palau is making sustainable travel possible (and a little fun) for its tourists.
📱 The country recently launched the Ol’au Palau — an initiative that allows tourists to accumulate points in a dedicated app by “demonstrating responsible and regenerative behavior during their stay”. You can then use the points to see parts of the island that aren’t generally open to tourists, or interact with the locals, or even see some off-limits historic sights.
🌊 What do you need to get points? Well, it’s easier than you think. All you have to do is try to offset your carbon footprint using Palau’s personal carbon calculator. You can also get points for using reef-safe sunscreen, eating sustainably sourced local food, and eschewing disposable plastics.
So, if sustainable travel is your jam, Palau clearly is the place that will literally reward you for it. And what else can one ask for?
